About the event
Session Description:
This session will provide a closer examination of the intersect among the rules and regulations that drive school-based therapy practice. School-based therapy is a unique practice setting governed not only by state practice acts but also by other federal, state, and professional guidelines. It is imperative that school-based therapists understand these guidelines in order to remain compliant in the delivery of school-based therapy services while maintaining professional ethics. The potential conflicts that may arise between IDEA, state education regulations, state practice acts, and professional Codes of Ethics on school-based practice will be shared and discussed. Using case scenarios, this session will facilitate participant discussion regarding the identification of conflicts and potential strategies to mitigate.
Objectives:
- List 3 practice areas that could conflict with IDEA and state practice acts.
- Explain 2 ethical challenges that can exist with a caseload model versus a workload model.
- Apply state practice act requirements to participants’ school-based practice regarding documentation procedures and service decision making.
