ESY can be confusing for school-based practitioners...it was something I often helped staff with while still in my admin role. Every district seems to manage ESY a bit differently and I saw that over the many years I worked directly in schools. Based on Facebook posts, that continues.
The ESY decisions should be made in the spring following a review of the data on regression and recoupment, or whether a skill is emerging. The severity of disability is a consideration but not the only criterion to be considered.
